"Alma Mater” - Original, Framed

24k gold and 23k red gold leaf, pencil, compass and straightedge construction. ~7.5"x9.5" in an 8"x10" frame. It was inspired partly by a ceiling at the Biltmore estate (last photo) which I toured as part of the 2022 Society of Gilders Conference where I offered two gilding classes. The piece has a few surprises. From a distance, only the gold is visible but up close, you will see the multitude of circles that were drawn to create the grid which all the gold shapes grow from. I am a second generation Idaho Vandal and the university colors are gold and black.
