Color & Gold LLC was founded by BKS in 2017. BKS is a gilder, ornamental mural painter, illuminator and geometer.

BKS uses ancient techniques of precious metal gilding, hand-made pigments, modern materials and hand-held drafting tools to create ornamental works, illuminations, murals and jewelry. BKS often uses locally sourced organic material and crushed semiprecious stones. Work is influenced from time lived abroad in Israel, Japan, China, and Chicago, the inspired artistry of late North American Bahá’í Temple architect, Louis Bourgeois, and the moss covered woods of the Pacific Northwest where BKS is from. BKS received a BA in industrial design with honors from the Art Institute of Portland, finished four courses with the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London in collaboration with the VM Center for Traditional Arts in Pakistan in 2022 and has been awarded grants three years in a row from the Idaho Commission on the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts

BKS worked as a consultant gilder at a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Israel, painted ornamental ceilings in China and the US and helped to restore gilt work at historical sites in the US with the Society of Gilders. BKS recently painted two murals and one canvas painting for Wayfarer Theaters in Highland Park, Illinois and has been invited to give lectures and demonstrations for both grade school and college students

BKS is an active member of the Society of Gilders with works featured in the permanent collection at Museum of the Gilding Arts & in private collections world wide. BKS’s elegant borders & graphic designs have been commissioned by art collectors, designers, publishers, event planners, private businesses & houses of worship.

In the print sections on the site, Museum-quality giclée prints can be found of exquisitely drawn and delicately gilded illuminations glow with bright archival inks on luxurious German Etching paper by Hahnemühle, who’s acid free papers have been prized by European nobility for centuries. BKS is excited to be making this line of illuminations available now or sale and new offerings will be made available by and by.

Adorning these prints with the splendor of hand-applied 24K gold or pure palladium leaf and often refining the gilt work with the colored pencils used in the originals, BKS fashions each illumination to be completely unique.
