"Amethyst Star” - Original, Framed
24k gold leaf, watercolor Compass and straightedge construction ~2.5"x2.5" in an 9"x9" frame. One of my incredible geometry teachers from London, Adam Williamson, taught a roundel from the 14th Century Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan in Cairo, Egypt and at the center was an eight-fold star. I used the same method and adapted it here for six. The paint is commercial and claims to have actual amethyst in it but this isn't a mineral paint that I made so can't attest to just own much amethyst is in it. Typically, clear stones, when made into pigment, have little to no color and look more like sugar so based on experience, I would say there are also some synthetic colorants within the paint. However, it is still a gorgeous paint with a light sparkle. In the last photo, it is the one on the right.
