I wanted to paint something festive for the first day of spring plus test out my first 12 half pan tin of commercial German watercolors. I found some lovely inspiration on page 49 of “Arts & Crafts of the Islamic Lands” edited by Khalid Azzam. It was also a good excuse to try out C. Roberson & Co Ormoline size. I think I’ve only used it once before and was very happy it could handle aluminum leaf From W & B Gold Lead. If it looks a bit more confetti vibe than a lot of my work, it’s probably because I didn’t make the paints. The paper was dyed with onions from the garden and black tea and burnished with agate.
