Kiln Fired Dish with Églomesé back gilding

Regular price $175.00

There was a time when I lived in the Midwest and had the opportunity to make many works with multi-skilled artists, Ruth Knoll. She knew all the inns and outs of the kilns and let me loose to design. I only have two square dishes left. The process of making Murrine glass is such that the pull of molten glass is almost like the flow of time and so at the very start of the pull, when I my one color was coming out, I saved that rod and broke it into equal lengths organized in succession. There is only one beginning to a Murrine pull and it can be seen here as the blue spike enveloped by clear glass four stripes down from the top in the photos. After the dish cooled, I gilded it with 24k gold leaf. Do be careful not to scratch it off the back unless you want a more distressed look. It will shine brilliantly in the sun.
