Kintsugi House SOLD
24k gold leaf and contemporary Kintsugi methods.
First Thoughts: When I first set out to find a house, what I was thinking of was what an impossible sounding dream it is for so many people to ever own a home and as I was putting this fine house stamped “ENGLAND” together, other things came to mind as well like how challenging it is to even afford to live in a safe apartment, or how those with the large fortunes to afford homes are often stuck with strange HOA rules. I was also thinking of home being representative of the life lived inside and how no matter how stable the foundation and walls of a home are, they can’t protect the people inside from destabilizing relationships. Further still, are the ravages of war that century after century displaced people and break up not just families but whole communities. So much in the world is in need of repair.
Second Thoughts: Sometimes the feeling of home is broken but eventually restored. Maybe the feeling is restored in the same place, a new one or one that was left and returned to. Bless those people, family, friends and strangers and furry friends who help people feel at home on this round rock. When I lived in Japan for a short while, my employers were the epitome of welcome. Knowing I liked art, they would take me on weekend trips to experience traditional arts and introduce me to craftspeople. It was incredible! My students were also so very kind. Some did their best to teach me how to cook, others brought me the best dried persimmons I’ve ever had and more. They are still so vivid in my heart. I was so far from home yet felt so welcomed. To 👽 above in your 🛸, I can not promise we will be so friendly when you come (or know if we were if you already visited) but I’d like to imagine we will be kind. Maybe wait a bit though.
Last Thoughts: It’s a tad bit easier I think to acknowledge and repair or even embrace the broken things and imperfections in life when looked at from a long distance perspective. If you are dealing with actual fissures in your house, my heart goes out to you and may you be able to find and afford a good contractor!
