"Shah Jahan Lights” - Original, Framed

24k palladium leaf, acrylic, mixed media, Pakistani inspired compass and straightedge construction in an 11x14 frame. The glass in this frame was reverse painted in the back and gilded in the front. There are openings of clear class through which the geometric construction used for the design drawn on thick paper can be seen. Inside are some AAA battery twinkle lights so that it glows from inside when turned on. This was the piece that I made as part of my application to VM Center for the Traditional Arts in Pakistan in collaboration with the King's Foundation School of the Traditional Arts when they were offering their first semester of their one year diploma program virtually. I also made this at a time when I didn't have access to running water so there are some evidences of the process and circumstances within the work.
