Silver Sage

Regular price $58.00

Elegant limited edition barbed quatrefoil Silver Sage illuminations are individually hand gilded with pure palladium, signed, numbered and ready for framing.

Each museum-quality illumination is made with bright archival water resistant inks on velvety smooth lightfast acid free pH neutral 100% α-cellulose German Etching paper by Hahnemühle who’s papers have been prized in European houses of nobility for centuries for their highest levels of craftsmanship and superb durability.

Only 500 Silver Sage illuminations each of five sizes will be made from the original 18”x18” colored pencil and silver illumination of the same name. The 4"x4" size is set with an additional brown border. The outline of this illumination is a "barbed quatrefoil". The earliest famous example is from 1260 on the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. It is interesting to note that the though quaterfoil design (without barbs) is often linked to Gothic and Renaissance design but it has also been found in Mayan monuments that date back to 850 BC where it represented the four cardinal directions. It is sometimes considered a good luck symbol with its similarity to a four-leafed clover.  © Bridgette Kelling
